EdgeIRC

Bringing combat alfalfa to the masses since May 2000.

All servers have been running normally for the past little while. acm.edgeirc.net has been upgraded to an x86_64 machine running, of course, FreeBSD. Also, cutting.edgeirc.net's previously mentioned hardware failure was corrected within 3 days, thanks to FedEx's quality overnight shipping (sarcasm intended).

Unfortunately, moe.edgeirc.net has left us over differences in opinion of network operation policy. qid provided many years of faithful services, both as co-founder, and also as operator of two long-successful servers (moe and acetylene).

Well, unfortunately, bounce's admin apparently had some issues with behaving responsibly, so bounce.edgeirc.net is gone. We are also experiencing another setback as the computer that was running cutting.edgeirc.net and network services has died; the services database should be intact, and we are working to recover it, but it will require some time.

Once again, a couple of server changes. Acetylene.edgeirc.net is down for the summer; it may return in the future, we’ll have to wait and see. We also have a new server currently being test-linked, bounce.edgeirc.net. Make sure to say “thanks” to twiggz if you see him. R1CH has also set up a semi-experimental “network guardian” program which should hopefully increase network security. Everything else on the network is running steadily. Five years and still going strong!

The website has now been updated to match the current state of the network. Since the last news update, we have added three new servers: acetylene, midi, and package. Unfortunately, we have also lost ghetto. As a result, the current hub servers are acm and cutting. Please continue to use the round-robin to connect to EdgeIRC.

Brewmeister.edgeirc.net has been removed at the request of administrators at RIT. We thank them for many months of good service, although it is unfortunate they cannot continue. A possible replacement server, titantower.edgeirc.net, is currently being test-linked, but it is not ready for use yet.

Big news, EdgeIRC users: we may soon be developing our own IRC daemon! This could result in some major changes to the network and how it operates, and we'd like to hear what features you want to have in an IRC server. Stop by #edgeircd for more information, or check out the EdgeIRCD section of this website (although it's a little sparse at the moment).

Apologies to our European users, pluto is down at the moment due to a hardware issue. Dicion will be taking a trip to the colocation facility in the near future to fix it.

The news system should be up and running again.
